Magazine Subscription Management Software That Renews Readers For You
Magazine subscription management software for print and digital publishers. ChargeBrite is Mirabel's subscription and recurring-billing platform, and it runs inside The Magazine Manager. Build plans on five pricing models, let renewal notices go out on a schedule instead of a to-do list, prorate every mid-term change automatically, and read circulation and revenue in the same system your ad sales and invoicing already live in.

Where Magazine Subscription Revenue Quietly Leaks
Six things that go wrong when subscriptions are run out of a spreadsheet, a fulfilment bureau and a generic payments tool that never talk to each other.
Renewal Notices Depend On Somebody Remembering
Expiry dates sit in a spreadsheet. The reminder goes out when someone has time to look, which is rarely 30 days before the term ends and sometimes after it.
A Failed Card Silently Ends The Subscription
The renewal payment bounces. Nothing retries, nobody is told, and a paying reader turns into a churned one without a single conversation.
Mid-Term Changes Turn Into Manual Maths
A reader upgrades in month four, adds two seats, or pauses for the summer. Someone works out the credit on a calculator and hopes the invoice matches.
Print And Digital Are Two Separate Systems
The fulfilment house holds the print list, a paywall tool holds digital access, and neither knows the other exists. Nobody can answer “what does this reader actually pay us?”
Nobody Can Say What Recurring Revenue Is
Circulation numbers come from one report, cash from another, and monthly recurring revenue gets rebuilt in a spreadsheet every board meeting.
Every New Offer Needs A Developer
Gift subscriptions, a student rate, a two-year term, a bundle with the awards dinner. Each one becomes a project instead of a plan you can set up and sell this week.
What do you want to fix first?
Reader revenue you can actually forecast
A subscription is only worth what it renews for. When plans, payments, renewal notices and circulation reporting sit in one system, you can see which products hold their subscribers, what each one earns per reader, and which terms are about to lapse — early enough to do something about it.
ChargeBrite handles the recurring side. Billing and invoicing, the publishing CRM and reporting handle the rest, on the same customer record.
Everything Subscription Management Has To Do, In One Place
From the plan a reader signs up to, through every mid-term change, to the renewal notice and the revenue report.
Renewal Notices That Send Themselves
Build the reminder once as a workflow: trigger on the subscription end date, wait the number of days you choose, check the plan, then send. Welcome letters, receipts and expiry notices all work the same way.
- Date-based triggersFire a set number of days before the subscription end date, at the hour you pick.
- Conditional branchesSend different copy per plan, and stop the sequence once a reader has renewed.
- Notices and receiptsWelcome letters, renewal reminders and payment receipts go out without anyone queuing them.
Recurring Payments, Proration And Dunning
Charges fire on the cycle the plan defines. Mid-term changes are prorated for you. A failed payment is retried and held in a grace period instead of quietly cancelling a reader.
- Every lifecycle change proratedUpgrade, downgrade, quantity change, pause, resume, extend or switch billing cycle — credit and charge are calculated automatically.
- Dunning with a grace periodFailed payments retry on a schedule; access continues while they do.
- Books stay in stepSubscription invoices and payments flow into the same accounts-receivable and QuickBooks or Xero sync as your ad billing.
Circulation And Revenue On One Screen
Total revenue, monthly recurring revenue and average revenue per user, with attribution broken out by product, channel and geography — and subscriber counts beside the money they represent.
- Recurring revenue, not guessworkMRR and ARPU calculated from live subscriptions rather than rebuilt each month.
- Attribution that names the productSee which title, channel and state the revenue came from.
- Churn and leakage reportingExpired and cancelled value reported next to active value, so a drift shows up while you can still act on it.
Five Pricing Models, No Development Ticket
Every plan shape a publisher needs is a configuration, not a project. Set the plan up, put it behind a checkout, and sell it this week.
Flat fee
One price per term. The standard annual or monthly subscription.
Tiered
Good, better, best. Different feature sets and prices on the same title.
Per unit
Priced by the copy, the seat or the licence, and billed on the quantity held.
Volume
The unit price falls as the quantity rises — bulk and institutional deals.
Stair step
A fixed price per band, so a range of quantities all pay the same amount.
Offer → Checkout → Fulfil → Renew → Report
Five connected stages on one subscription record, each change written to an audit trail.
Offer
Plans, terms, add-ons, trials and gift subscriptions configured in the product.
Checkout
A reader subscribes and pays; the subscription and its billing schedule are created together.
Fulfil
Print delivery, issue tracking and digital access run from the same record.
Renew
Notices go out on schedule; payments retry through dunning before anything lapses.
Report
MRR, ARPU, churn and attribution update as the subscriptions themselves change.

What Publishers Say About The Platform
Verified Capterra reviews from publishers running magazines and newspapers on The Magazine Manager.
We can pull targeted email lists, electronically invoice clients in literally minutes, take payments, and with one click know what our clients' ad schedules are. As a past Salesforce user, this is SO much easier — and because it's made for ad sales, the company deeply understands what we need.
We've been with Magazine Manager for over 8 years. Their digital tearsheets feature alone SAVED ME over $9,000 a year by not having to buy stamps, envelopes, paper, toner, or pay a staff member to stuff envelopes with invoices.
Magazine Manager is the industry's gold standard. Robust enough for our needs but user friendly enough that onboarding new employees takes a brief introduction. There's no better software out there for the money.
Built for Publishers.
Not Adapted For Them.
Horizontal subscription-billing tools handle recurring charges well and know nothing about issues, print delivery or the advertiser sitting on the same account. Magazine Manager and ChargeBrite were built for publishing, and it shows from day one.

Publishers Ask Us These About Subscription Management
What is ChargeBrite?
ChargeBrite is Mirabel Technologies' subscription management and recurring-billing platform. It handles plans, pricing, checkout, recurring payments, renewals, notices and subscription reporting, and it works alongside The Magazine Manager and Mirabel's Marketing Manager on the same customer record.
Does it handle print and digital subscriptions together?
Yes. Publishing subscriptions carry the things print needs — delivery details, issue tracking, vacation holds and access to the digital library — on the same subscription record as the billing schedule, so one reader is one record whichever format they buy.
What pricing models can we sell?
Flat fee, tiered, per unit, volume and stair step, plus free trials. On top of the base plan you can attach add-ons, membership tiers and gift subscriptions, and run discount or coupon campaigns.
How do automated renewals work?
You build a workflow rather than a reminder list. The trigger is the subscription end date; you set how many days before it should fire and at what time, add conditions for particular plans, and the action sends the renewal email. The same mechanism sends welcome letters, receipts and expiry notices.
What happens when a renewal payment fails?
Dunning takes over: the payment is retried automatically on a schedule, and the subscription stays in a grace period while that happens rather than being suspended on the first decline. Only when the grace period ends does access change.
Can a reader upgrade, pause or cancel mid-term?
Yes, and the money is worked out for you. Upgrades, downgrades, quantity changes, pauses, resumes, extensions and billing-cycle changes each calculate the credit for unused time and the charge for the new terms, applied immediately or scheduled for the next renewal. Cancellations can take effect at once or at period end, with or without a prorated refund.
Can we see who changed a subscription, and when?
Every lifecycle event — created, upgraded, downgraded, paused, resumed, cancelled, extended — is recorded on a timeline with the date, the person, the values before and after, and any proration applied.
What subscription reporting do we get?
Total revenue, monthly recurring revenue and average revenue per user, with attribution by product, channel and geography, subscriber counts per product, and active versus expired value so churn and revenue leakage are visible without a spreadsheet.
Does it work with the rest of Magazine Manager?
It is part of the same platform. Subscription invoices and payments sit in the same accounts receivable as your ad billing, subscribers and advertisers share the publishing CRM record, and marketing campaigns can target subscription data directly.
